We worked on Iduna

The details of how this all panned out in practice are contained in the book on Iduna's restoration. Here are extracts from some of the testimonies by the multinational team of craftsmen and specialists who worked on the project.

"I have been involved with many fascinating rebuild projects in my time, and Iduna has certainly been an interesting challenge. It was nice to work on a non-commercial operation; one that was free of unrealistic time constraints. This allowed everything to be done properly. Iduna has turned out very well, exceeding even my high expectations."

John Winterbotham: Surveyor

"When we first started work in Viareggio, people looked at me as if I was mad to be working on such a wreck. Later, as Iduna took shape, the looks turned to envy, especially when I started working closely with Johan on the interior decoration. An enormous amount of emotion went into Iduna over the years. I will definitely shed a few tears if she is ever sold."

Elisabetta Longo: Co-manager of the project

"I visited the boat in Viareggio and spent a good deal of time discussing the sail wardrobe to ensure that we would produce a suit to complement the very high standard of Iduna's rebuild. We used a standard of sail making that would have been employed in the initial build. The Contender Dacron sailcloth was specially coloured to replicate traditional cotton cream."

Mark Ratsey-Woodroffe: Ratsey & Lapthorne sailmakers
